Dress Help!

Not for me, but for my 11 year old daughter... we have a christening to attend in 2 weeks. She is the Godmother - I'd love to get her something nice, cute, and age appropriate. I have a couple of things working against me here, 1. She is a very tall 11 year old, as in 5'4" tall - she would wear a 16/18 in a dress just to get the length right, so this rules out a lot shops. 2. It is an iffy time of year - certainly too late for a sundress, but it could also be too hot for something too warm. 3. Talbots Kids has closed. They were my "go to" and now they are gone and I am up a creek. The only thing working for me is that she still likes what I like, so whatever I pick will probably be well received. I am in full panic mode now - any suggestions????? xoxoxoxo, Brie

I was that height at 11 too, so frustrating! I think I got a lot of dresses in the Misses Petite sections of Kohl's and Boston Store. The "juniors" didn't fit me right because my boobs were already too big for it - awesome, right? Nothing like being an amazon preteen.

I can imagine this is really hard - I have no girls, so I'm of no use, but I was in a Halloween store this weekend and was slightly horrified by the number of girls that appeared to be 12-14 trying on "sexy" costumes - like sexy maids, sexy Dorothy, etc. - WITH their mothers....this scares me b/c I have a 13 year old boy going to school with these girls!

omg - yes, thank you for mentioning this! The Halloween costumes are completely OUT OF CONTROL! You should have seen the costume my daughter was begging me for last year - it looked like a stripper witch. Needless to say that was completely negged!

If you go to the juniors section of nordstroms website, and tell it to display 99 items at a time. There is an adorable knit cream shortsleeve dress by a brand called "Rubbish" (WEIRD name), I think it's pretty. Can you order a 2 or a 4?

That dress is really cute! She has a dress from lilly that is a 0 and works pretty well on her, I'd have to check the measurements to see (mostly the length) I am going to check jcrew sale too! Thanks for the great suggestions :)

PS Talbots kids is totally out either. Go to talbots dot com and click on outlet, then kids... awesome deals and a decent selection! I'm going to get Kay some cute casuals for church etc

Rubbish is a really nice brand, actually - I bought a few things from that brand when I was a little younger and really liked it.

Do you have an H&M? I bet their smaller sizes might work for her.
