SPECIAL program

A recent post at Keeping Up Appearances announcing the return of the Electric Company really got me thinking, how lucky we are that tv has improved so much over the years. Now, don't get me wrong, my kids get plenty of fresh air and outside time, but you can't beat a nice tv show or movie to calm them down a bit or put on when you are experiencing a downpour outside.

You might not be a bit surprised to know that I loved tv just as much then as I do now! Shows were seriously limited as you might remember. Pick your poison...... Seasame Street, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, or the Electric Company. Maybe you could catch a little Davey and Goliath if you were really lucky by turning your dial to U and then fiddling around with the lower dial with all the high numbers.

If you were fortunate enough to position the tv rabbit antenna just so the stars may shine down on you and you could catch Jerry the mouse preparing Tom the cat like a roasted turkey complete with sticks of dynamite and a little chef hat!

Saturday mornings were the end all, be all in tv selection. We'd get up early for fear we'd miss out on an adventure with Captain Caveman or Hong Kong Phooey

and our favorite the Looney Tune Comedy Hour

Occasionally we would find ourselves desperate for absolutely anything on Sunday and would be known on occasion to tune into Villa Alegre, I couldn't understand most of it, but my goodness did they have a killer theme song. La la la la la la, la la la la la la la Villa Alegre!
here's the song if you'd like to sing along http://www.myspace.com/villaalegre

Ah those were the days :) xo, Brie

ETA: Mom just reminded me of ZOOM! LOVED IT!

We had one of those TVs with the upper and lower dials. And you're right the stars had to shine down on you for you to get just the right number combination and the rabbit ears just right to create a picture. Kids these days have no idea how easy they have it. I loved all of those shows you mentioned and back then getting up early on a Saturday was totally worth it. Have you seen Saturday morning TV now? No wonder kids are lazy. They have nothing driving them out of bed! I also really liked the show that Bill Cosby did. I can't remember the name, but I think it was Picture Page or somehting. Thanks for this little trip down memory lane.
